My research spans the optics and photonics of advanced materials. At its core are rare-earth ions and their luminescence, with theoretical modelling via classical and Combinatorial Judd-Ofelt analysis. Study of amorphous glasses (silicate, tellurite and chalcogenide) and optical fibres for applications from the UV to the mid- and far-infrared, together with two-dimensional materials and thin films. Across these systems I investigate linear and non-linear optical, magneto-optical, luminescence and structural properties, combined with laser processing and semi-empirical modelling.
Preparation of amorphous materials for photonic applications across the UV, visible, mid-IR and far-IR range: silicate, tellurite and chalcogenide glasses. Melt-quench synthesis with structural, thermal and optical property mapping, from bulk glasses through preform fabrication and fibre drawing to finished optical fibres and components.
Founder and developer of Combinatorial Judd–Ofelt analysis and of the open-source LOMS.cz platform for high-throughput classical and combinatorial JO computation. Spectroscopy of rare-earth doped glasses and crystals: energy transfer, upconversion and emission for photonic and laser applications.
Linear and non-linear refractive index and dispersion by spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE), magneto-optical Faraday rotation and Verdet constant, and photoluminescence mapping. Applications in photonic waveguides, sensors and magneto-optical isolators.
Thin-film deposition by pulsed laser deposition (PLD), metal-organic (organometallic) decomposition and spin-coating. Post-deposition characterisation of both thin-film and volumetric samples by Raman spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, AFM, confocal and optical microscopy, XRD and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometry.
